 The Pocket Watches

First produced in Germany in the 15th century, pocket watches are time measurement machines and symbols of lived experience, memory, past, present, and future. Each painting in this series presents a pocket watch made by a master European watchmaker sometime within the 16th to 19th centuries. The paintings celebrate the watchmakers' meticulous craftsmanship and fine artistry and invite viewers to reflect on the human-made construct of time.

Click on the paintings to learn about the pocket watches and expand your view. I'll upload new paintings as I complete them. Thanks, and enjoy!

Thank you to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for designating the photos of its pocket watch collection to the public domain. The MET's photos provided the references for these paintings.
