 The Pocket Watches

Pocket watches are time measurement machines and symbols of lived experience, memory, past, present, and future. This series is an invitation to face the construct of time and ponder what it really is, how you have spent yours, and how much you might have left. What lingers after midnight? Pocket watches were first produced in Germany in the 15th century. Each painting in the series presents a pocket watch made by a European clockmaker or watchmaker sometime between the 16th to 19th centuries. And each painting celebrates the meticulous craftsmanship that the clockmaker applied to produce the watch, while providing space for viewers to admire the artistry and mystery in each portable timekeeper.
